My Very Best

While learning the Essential 15 that we will be using as RULES for this year, the fifth grade teachers rewrote "The Lazy Song" to teach the rules. Practice this at home with your child and let them sing it with you. I have attached the link to the instrumental on youtube, so you can sing along. Start as soon as the music starts.

“My Very Best”

Written by Robin Bracken, Trevor Cole, Pam Cowley, Brooke O’Neal, and Quinn Pearson

Sung to: “The Lazy Song” by Bruno Mars

Calhoun’s Essential 15- Taken from Ron Clark’s Essential 55

Today I feel like doing my very best!

Got my rules – I’m putting them to the test

I feel like picking up my own

Manners, Mom I’ll use ‘em at home

‘Cause today I’m gonna give it my very best!

I’m gonna say “Yes Ma’am,”

And “No Sir” – that’s right.

Make eye contact and super focus my sight

Nobody’s gonna take a star from me

I’m gonna clap for my peeps,

Congratulate my homies.

Respect ideas that my friends spring up on me.

‘Cause in my class we don’t disrespect

Oh, oh

Yes, I’ll do it

I’ll do it

I’ll do cause that’s me

Today I feel like doing my very best!

Got my rules – I’m putting them to the test

I feel like picking up my own

Manners, Mom I’ll use ‘em at home

‘Cause today I’m gonna give it my very best!

my very best, oh oh oh, oh oh oh, oh, oh, oh

my very best, oh oh oh, oh oh oh, oh oh, oh

Always say Thank You when given something,

Follow along and read or learn nothing.

Don’t be rude or ask for rewards

OMG, So rude!

I’m gonna turn in my homework each and every day.

Our classes we will change in a “SQOly” way,

And in the hall the line will be straight!

Yes, I’ll do it

I’ll do it

I’ll do cause that’s me

Today I feel like doing my very best!

Got my rules – I’m putting them to the test

I feel like picking up my own

Manners, Mom I’ll use ‘em at home

‘Cause today I’m gonna give it my very best!

No, I ain’t gonna stop and stare

Make mistakes but I won’t care

No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no!

I’ll accept it and let it be

Consequences coming to me

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yea-yeah!

Today I feel like doing my very best!

Got my rules – I’m putting them to the test

I feel like picking up my own

Manners, Mom I’ll use ‘em at home

‘Cause today I’m gonna give it my very best!

My very best! oh oh oh, oh oh oh, oh, oh, oh

My very best! oh oh oh, oh oh oh, oh, oh, oh

My very best!

WORLD POWER

WORLD POWER
Written by: Mrs. Bracken and Mrs. O’Neal’s
Fifth Grade Social Studies Classes ’08-09
Calhoun Academy of the Arts
Anderson, SC
Sing to: Independent by Webbie featuring Lil Boosie & Lil Phat

We got Alaska from Russia
only 7.2 million dollars
Seward’s Folly, Natural Resources
fish, lumber, oil, gold, coal, copper

Now we’re annexing Hawaii
Using cash crops to get more money
Yellow journalists told stories
‘Bout the battleship Maine exploding

WORLD POWER-do you know what that means?
WORLD POWER-do you know what that means?

Teddy’s Rough Riders were fighting
To get Guam, Philippines, Puerto Rico

We’re becoming invincible
We’re brave, mighty, and ambitious

Now we’re needing
a better trade route
Instead of moving all around South America

Faster travel we’re attaining
using sea-level locks for sailing

WORLD POWER-do you know what that means?
WORLD POWER-do you know what that means?

Panama Canal
is finally finished
Even though mosquitoes caused diseases

Atlantic to Pacific
9 Hours to be more specific

Storms Arising- Tensions Growing
Everybody’s gonna be exploding

Alliances are forming
Protection from the enemies’ storming
Assassination from Serbia
1914 is all about disturbia

Before we know it-We’re competing
Other countries are becoming deceiving

WORLD POWER-do you know what that means?
WORLD POWER-do you know what that means?

Woodrow Wilson remaining neutral
Until the fighting gets way too brutal

Lusitania was torpedoed
By a German submarine called a U-Boat

Americans are dying
Isolationism we’re still trying

Mail to Mexico from Germany
Ganging up to be bring some harmony

Sending telegrams made us angry
Zimmerman note turned out crazy

1917 is the year
Central Powers will begin to fear

WORLD POWER-do you know what that means?
WORLD POWER-do you know what that means?

Allied Powers we are teaming
We’re tired of Germany’s scheming

Great Britain, France and Russia
Japan, Italy, Belgium, Serbia

Central Powers we’re attacking
All the soldiers have started packing

(Rest) Turkey and Germany
We’ve got Bulgaria, Austria-Hungary

WORLD POWER-do you know what that means?
WORLD POWER-do you know what that means?

New technologies are arriving
A better way to help our fighting
Machine guns, trench warfare
Submarines, poison gas- say a prayer

We are testing tanks and airplanes
Dog-fighting pilots on their A-game

In the trenches we are steady
to enter no-man’s land we are ready!

In the U.S, we are busy
To help make win the war very easy

Sending vegetables from the war gardens
To help the fighters who might be starvin’

WORLD POWER-do you know what that means?
WORLD POWER-do you know what that means?

SPOKEN:
On November 11, 1918 at 11:00AM, the Central Powers surrendered, and an armistice ended the war.

January 1919, the Treaty of Versailles officially ended the war.

Germany had to pay heavy fines and could not rebuild its army.

The League of Nations was formed to prevent future wars, but the senate did not approve.

The United States would return to isolationism.

Everyone hoped this would be the “WAR TO END ALL WARS.”

Peace and Isolation would only last for about 20 years.

America the Beautiful

America the Beautiful

Words by Katharine Lee Bates,

Melody by Samuel Ward

O beautiful for spacious skies,

For amber waves of grain,

For purple mountain majesties

Above the fruited plain!

America! America!

God shed his grace on thee

And crown thy good with brotherhood

From sea to shining sea!

O beautiful for pilgrim feet

Whose stern impassioned stress

A thoroughfare of freedom beat

Across the wilderness!

America! America!

God mend thine every flaw,

Confirm thy soul in self-control,

Thy liberty in law!

O beautiful for heroes proved

In liberating strife.

Who more than self their country loved

And mercy more than life!

America! America!

May God thy gold refine

Till all success be nobleness

And every gain divine!

O beautiful for patriot dream

That sees beyond the years

Thine alabaster cities gleam

Undimmed by human tears!

America! America!

God shed his grace on thee

And crown thy good with brotherhood

From sea to shining sea!

O beautiful for halcyon skies,

For amber waves of grain,

For purple mountain majesties

Above the enameled plain!

America! America!

God shed his grace on thee

Till souls wax fair as earth and air

And music-hearted sea!

O beautiful for pilgrims feet,

Whose stem impassioned stress

A thoroughfare for freedom beat

Across the wilderness!

America! America!

God shed his grace on thee

Till paths be wrought through

wilds of thought

By pilgrim foot and knee!

O beautiful for glory-tale

Of liberating strife

When once and twice,

for man's avail

Men lavished precious life!

America! America!

God shed his grace on thee

Till selfish gain no longer stain

The banner of the free!

O beautiful for patriot dream

That sees beyond the years

Thine alabaster cities gleam

Undimmed by human tears!

America! America!

God shed his grace on thee

Till nobler men keep once again

Thy whiter jubilee!

Immigration State of Mind

Immigration State of Mind

Yeah Immigration

Moving to the U.S.

All seeking freedom

Jobs, food and homes

We need a better life

wars in the homeland

religious persecution

Just let us break away

Traveled in steerage

crowded with the luggage

moving alone from

South and East Europe

People are crying

others are dying

Is this worth it

to go to the Golden land

I want a decent job, go to school and eat really well

I miss my family

but I know it’s better there

Candy dropping from the sky

bread and butter- not a lie

steamship get me there

6 to 30 days who cares

Ellis Island- I have arrived

Lady Liberty- I survived

Inspection Station

Pass examinations

Waiting in the Great Hall

Answering questions

Chorus

New York!!!! America is where dreams are made of,

There’s nothing you can’t do.

Now you’re in New York!!!

These streets will make you feel brand new,

The Freedom will inspire you,

Let’s hear it for New York, New York, New York!

Immigrants were pushed or pulled

From their home countries

For social equality or

Political freedom

They made a huge impact

On America

In many different ways

A melting pot here today

Some moved to the West

To work in meat packing plants

Or grain mills and

some did work the fields

Most settled the East Coast

And showed city growth

Urbanization

And ethnic neighborhoods

Little Italy, Germantown

Little Poland, Chinatown

Providing labor

They became the workforce

Taking the dirty jobs

Working for low wages

Not appreciated

For economic growth

Prejudices against

Ethnicity and religion

Catholics and Jews

Discrimination

And resistance

From the native-born Americans

Despite all the troubles

Opportunities arose

Chorus

New York!!!! America is where dreams are made of,

There’s nothing you can’t do.

Now you’re in New York!!!

These streets will make you feel brand new,

The Freedom will inspire you,

Let’s hear it for New York, New York,

New York!

Public schools were established

In the early 1800s

To Assimilate immigrants

Into American values

Diversity helped promote

Tolerance and democracy

Increased Immigration

Brought growth of BIG BUSINESS

The workforce was a plenty

They worked for less money

They helped the businesses

To make a greater profit

Then Entrepreneurs

Using their business skills

Like Andrew Carnegie

John D. Rockefeller

Creating monopolies

Controlling the industries

Keeping wages low

Labor unions cannot grow

Many children had to work

To help support their families

Work conditions- dangerous

Long hours- outrageous

But immigration as a whole

The cultural contributions

From all around the world

They make America

what its known today

The land of the free and the land, the land, the land of opportunity

Chorus

New York!!!! America is where dreams are made of,

There’s nothing you can’t do.

Now you’re in New York!!!

These streets will make you feel brand new,

The Freedom will inspire you,

Let’s hear it for New York, New York, New York!

Bridge

One hand in the air for the big city,

New freedom, big dreams all looking pretty,

No place in the world that can compare,

Immigration give it up, everybody say YEEEEEEAAH!

YEEEEEEEAH!!!

Chorus

New York!!!! America is where dreams are made of,

There’s nothing you can’t do.

Now you’re in New York!!!

These streets will make you feel brand new,

The Freedom will inspire you,

Let’s hear it for New York, New York, New York!

Sing to: Get Busy by Sean Paul

Adjectives- how many?
Adjectives- what kind?
Adjectives- which one?
It’s Adjectives time

Get busy, describing that noun
adjectives nearly always appear
immediately before the noun
come on you hear me let’s get busy
create pictures in the reader's
mind
Make it so real you take em on a ride
The sentence is flowin’ now
It’s so smooth
It’s magic –WOW!

[Chorus]
Adjectives describe a noun
Describe a noun
Describe a noun
Adjectives they modify
They modify
They modify
The Articles — a, an, and the — are adjectives
Are adjectives
Common and proper
Let’s get it on…Let’s get it on
Adjectives describe a noun
Adjectives describe a noun

Comparisons are known as the positive, the comparative, and the superlative.
Comparative compares two things
The Superlative compares three or more
Luan is funny, but Kyle is funnier, but Roman is the funniest in town.
Positive, comparative, superlative
They compare!

[Chorus]

Add -er and -est to form
most comparatives and superlatives,
although we need -ier and -iest
when a two-syllable
adjective ends in y
like happier and happiest
or use more and most
when an adjective
has more than two syllables

[Chorus]

Adjectives come on now
Size, Shape, Age and Color
Adjectives come on now
Size, Shape, Age and Color

rich richer richest
lovely lovelier loveliest
beautiful more beautiful
most beautiful

Come on!

[Chorus]

Adjectives come on now
this, that, these, and those
Adjectives come on now
this, that, these, and those

good better best
bad worse worst
little less least

Written by Robin Bracken
Calhoun Academy of the Arts

Sing to: Love Shack by The B52’s

If you see a lot of words when it’s time to write
Put them all together and make a SENTENCE, Sentence yeah!

I'm writing down the words in the right way,
lookin' for the words’ pathway
Heading for the sentence getaway
I got my pencil and I’m ready to write
You can’t stop me now
My grip is too tight
My teacher is ready, to help me learn
So hurry up and get your grammar face on!

A sentence is a group of words
That express a complete thought
A Sentence baby, A Sentence bay-bee.
A Sentence, Baby sentence
A Sentence, Baby Sentence

Start with a Captial letter
'cause that’s what you’re just supposed to do

Now don’t forget to put the right end mark:
Period, question or exclamatory, too

There’s always 2 parts
Subject and a predicate
Subject tells what or whom
Predicate tells what they do

A sentence is a group of words
That express a complete thought
A Sentence baby, A Sentence bay-bee.
A Sentence, not a fragment
A Sentence, not a fragment

Tell’n and a ask’n, giv’n and express’n
Four types are workin
You better keep it goin’
The whole class shimmies when everybody's
Movin' around and around and around and around!
Everybody's movin', everybody's groovin' baby!
Declarative- tell ‘em with a period
Everybody's movin', everybody's groovin' baby
Imperative- ORDER with a period
Music Break-

Interrogative- no question there
Exclamatory- exclamation YEAH!!
My teacher is ready, to help me learn
So hurry up and get your grammar face on!

A sentence is a group of words
That express a complete thought
A Sentence baby, A Sentence bay-bee.
A Sentence, Baby sentence
A Sentence, Baby Sentence

-Music Break-

Write, Write, Write on your paper children!
Write a little longer students!
Write, Write, Write on your paper children!
Are you ready?

Period- at the end baby!
Question Mark- that’s not all y’all
Exclamation Mark
You got it now!
Sentences? Wipe ‘em down!

I Will Write

I Will Now WriteLyrics by Kim Bearden
Sing to “I Will Survive”

At first I am afraid; I am petrified
Keep thinking I can never find a topic or decide
I always spend so many nights
Thinking ‘bout what I should write
Ideas I find and then prewrite with all my might
And then I draft while leaving space
To place my ideas as they come to me right there upon the page
And as I write them down so fast
No little worries should there be
Because this very first rough draft is only written just for me

So I’ll show my ideas flow
I’ll let them out now
I’m doing really well I know
I am the one who feared the task that was assigned
But I won’t crumble; I will not lie down and die
Oh, no, not I. I will now write
Oh, as long as I give it a try for greatness I will strive
I’ve got all my thoughts to give
I’ve got stories that should live and I’ll now write
I will now write

Then it will be time to tear my words apart
Revise and make them better from the very start
And as I change and rearrange
I can’t feel sorry for myself; I will comply
So I can hold my head up high
And as I choose the words so new
I’ll have more style and better word choice as good writers do
I will have strong organization and the details to complete
Add some varied sentence patterns with great verbs that do agree

So I’ll show my ideas flow
I’ll let them out now
I’m doing really well I know
I am the one who feared the task that was assigned
But I won’t crumble; I will not lie down and die
Oh, no, not I. I will revise
Oh, as long as I know how to change I know I’ll be alright
I’ve got all my thoughts to give
I’ve got stories that should live and I’ll revise
I will revise

Then I’ll edit all my work just to show my pride
And fix the errors in mechanics that I should not hide
Check the spelling, punctuation, and the things that are still wrong
‘Cause I am smart, and these mistakes do not belong

And then it’s time to finalize
Publish my best of my writing all for other people’s eyes
I will complete my final copy in a way that makes me feel
Like I’ve given all my best and that my efforts are for real
So I’ll show my ideas flow
I’ll let them out now
I’m doing really well I know
I am the one who feared the task that was assigned
But I won’t crumble; I will not lie down and die
Oh, no, not I. I will now write

Please Don't Stop the Music

Please Don’t Stop the Music- Roaring 20’s, Great Depression, and the New Deal
Written by: Mrs. Bracken’s Social Studies Classes ’08-‘09
Calhoun Academy of the Arts
Anderson, SC
Sing to: Rhianna’s Don’t Stop the Music

It’s Roaring 20’s
Life is changing due to new technology
Americans are buying Ford’s Model T
It’s perfect for one person or a whole family- it’s affordable- yeah

Assembly line
It’s mass production now they’re working all the time
Economy is boomin’
We’re not in a bind
Hairdryers, Mixers, fridges--- oh just let it be
Electricity

Airplanes, radios, and movies
We call them new technologies
It’s 1920 and the party here has just brought many
We’re going to the movies, silent 1st then Talkies
Entertainment
Sports and Shows
Listen to the radio

I’m in the Roaring 20’s
Lots of things are changing
Some good and some bad
Prohibition happened
Alcohol’s illegal
to make, sell or drink it
Please don’t stop the
Please don’t stop the
Please don’t stop the

I’m in the Roaring 20’s
Lots of things are changing
Some good and some bad
Prohibition happened
Alcohol’s illegal
to make, sell or drink it
Please don’t stop the
Please don’t stop the
Please don’t stop the music.

Man, we weren’t ready for what happened next.
Black Tuesday is a day I wish I could forget
Stock Market Crash and now the banks are closedEconomy- no money

How could this have happened?
We’re in a Great Depression
And now we’re living in a shantytown
with no progression.
We’re waiting in a line
It really hurts my pride.
We are annoyed and I’m tired of being unemployed.

I’m in the Great Depression
Lots of things are changing.
How did it get so bad?
I just can’t get through it
I’m about to lose it
Can I keep on going?
Please don’t stop the
Please don’t stop the
Please don’t stop the

I’m in the Great Depression
Lots of things are changing
How did it get so bad?
I just can’t get through it
I’m about to lose it
Can I keep on going?
Please don’t stop the
Please don’t stop the
Please don’t stop the music.

Now it is FDR’s turn
Let’s stop all the problems
With the New Deal laws
The 3 R’s should do it
We will make it through it
Now we have more money

Please don’t stop the
Please don’t stop the
Please don’t stop the music.

COPS

Cops- Grammar Police
COPS-
C= Capital letters
O= On topic
P= Punctuation
S= Spelling/Sense

An easy reminder to help students when they are writing is to teach the concept "COPS."
Written by: Robin Bracken
Calhoun Academy of the Arts
Sing to: Coe Brothers - Bad Boys- Cops Theme Song

Speak this part like a Dispatcher Call:
The Grammar Police is on its way!
There’s been a call to have them look for mistakes in students’ papers.
They’re on the look-out for spelling errors, correct use of punctuation, subject-verb agreement, capital letters, main idea, staying on topic and vivid vocabulary and details.
Oh, one last thing... they are enforcing NO DEAD WORDS!

Good Writers! Good Writers!
What ya gonna do?
What ya gonna do when they come for you?

Good Writers! Good Writers!
What ya gonna do?
What ya gonna do when they come for you?

Capital letters are at the beginning
of every sentence- ok? ok!
On topic is what you’ll do
stay focused through and through- uh huh!

Punctuation keeps your paper organized
use them right you’ll get it each time!- each time!
Spell the words and check to make sure
your paper makes sense- not obscure! OBSCURE!

Good Writers! Good Writers!
What ya gonna do?
What ya gonna do when they come for you?

Good Writers! Good Writers!
What ya gonna do?
What ya gonna do when they come for you?

They worked for less money
They helped the businesses
To make a greater profit
Then Entrepreneurs
Using their business skills
Like Andrew Carnegie
John D. Rockefeller
Creating monopolies
Controlling the industries
Keeping wages low
Labor unions cannot grow
Many children had to work
To help support their families
Work conditions- dangerous
Long hours- outrageous
But immigration as a whole
The cultural contributions
From all around the world
They make America
what its known today
The land of the free and the land, the land, the land of opportunity

Chorus
New York!!!! America is where dreams are made of,
There’s nothing you can’t do.
Now you’re in New York!!!
These streets will make you feel brand new,
The Freedom will inspire you,
Let’s hear it for New York, New York, New York!

Bridge
One hand in the air for the big city,
New freedom, big dreams all looking pretty,
No place in the world that can compare,
Immigration give it up, everybody say YEEEEEEAAH!
YEEEEEEEAH!!!

Chorus
New York!!!! America is where dreams are made of,
There’s nothing you can’t do.
Now you’re in New York!!!
These streets will make you feel brand new,
The Freedom will inspire you,
Let’s hear it for New York, New York, New York!

Inventions- Try Again

Here is our new song: Inventions- Try Again

Written by Robin Bracken
Calhoun Academy of the Arts
Anderson, SC
Sing to: Try Again by Aaliyah

*Start as soon as music begins*
It may take a long time, long time
Inventions take hard work and commitment
Keep work’n, Keep work’n
Keep work’n, Keep work’n
Keep work’n, Keep work’n

Brainstorm
Make a plan
Change your plans
Talk about it
Try different things
Keep an open mind…
Be a problem solver

Discover, It all goes back to the late 1800’s

United States
Is changing from
Farm work
To factories
Industrial Revolution
Production of
Manufactured goods

Not so much
Trade and agriculture
But land and labor
and capital
and technology
the new ideas
and how to use
the equipment to do it

Chorus:
If at first you don’t succeed
Then dust yourself off and try again
Dust yourself off and try again, try again
If at first you don’t succeed
Dust yourself off and try again,
You can dust it off and try again, try again and again

Inventions helped
Industrial growth
The telegraph
Samuel Morse
Using Morse Code
To communicate
Then the telephone
Alexander Graham Bell
Communicate 1876
With the telephone
Than the telegraph
It’s easier and quicker
We’re on a move
It’s economic growth

Chorus:
If at first you don’t succeed
Then dust yourself off and try again
Dust yourself off and try again, try again
If at first you don’t succeed
Dust yourself off and try again,
You can dust it off and try again, try again and again

Bridge:
Thomas Edison is a famous inventor
Incandescent light bulb 1879
Huh? Huh? Huh? Huh?
Electricity! Lighting all the factories
Safer than the kerosene
Now we have a brighter day
Oh! Oh! Oh! Oh!

Chorus:
If at first you don’t succeed
Then dust yourself off and try again
Dust yourself off and try again, try again
If at first you don’t succeed
Dust yourself off and try again,
You can dust it off and try again, try again and again

Speak this part:
The Wright Brothers
Orville and Wilbur
Started the aircraft industry
With their experiments in manned flight
1st motorized flight flew for 12 seconds
in Kitty Hawk, N.C. in 1903

You see Inventors and scientists contributed to the Industrial Revolution in the United States and helped the US to become a leading industrial power in the world.
Thank you for not giving up!

Chorus:
If at first you don’t succeed
Then dust yourself off and try again
Dust yourself off and try again, try again
If at first you don’t succeed
Dust yourself off and try again,
You can dust it off and try again, try again

If at first you don’t succeed
Then dust yourself off and try again
Dust yourself off and try again, try again
If at first you don’t succeed
Dust yourself off and try again,
You can dust it off and try again, try again and again

It may take a long time, long time
Inventions take hard work and commitment
Keep work’n, Keep work’n
Keep work’n, Keep work’n
Keep work’n, Keep work’n

Brainstorm
Make a plan
Change your plans

Keep an open mind…
Be a problem solver

All the Action Verbs

VERBS!!!!
Written by Mrs. Bracken
Calhoun Academy of the Arts
Anderson, SC
Sing to: Beyonce “Single Ladies”

All the Action Verbs.... All the Action Verbs
All the Helping Verbs... All the Helping Verbs
All the Linking Verbs... All the Linking Verbs
All the Action Verbs

Now put your hands up!
Action verbs
Acting Up
Showing what the subject does
Running- Swimming
Dancing-Singing
Sometimes it’s action you can’t see

Direct objects, follow the verb
Answer what? Or whom?
Just stay on track!
There’s no turning back-
Cause there’s just a lot to learn

CHORUS:
When you write a sentence you must put a verb in it
It’s not a complete sentence until you put a verb in it
Lights, Camera, Action- put a verb in it
Come on- now you hear me-put a verb in it

Uh oh oh Uh oh oh oh oh oh Uh oh oh (x2)
REPEAT CHORUS (but no the uh oh's)

To help us all out
We’ve got some helping verbs
Working with the main action verb
Am are were have
Has is was had
Helping out is not so bad

Now another kind
They’re called linking verbs
They’re opposite and don’t show action

They link the subject with the predicate
She is strong--the racers seem ready

REPEAT CHORUS

Oh- It’s present tense if it’s happening now
All you do is add an “s”
Past tense is easy, too- just add an –ed
The future tense will come
So just use will or shall
Make sure it agrees- singular or plural
Subject singular add an “s”
A plural leave alone
If you don’t it will be wrong
It will be on like Donkey Kong

All the Action Verbs.... All the Action Verbs
All the Helping Verbs... All the Helping Verbs
All the Linking Verbs... All the Linking Verbs
All the Action Verbs... Now put your hands up

What You Know about Nouns

"What You Know About Nouns"
Sing to "What you Know" T.I.
Written by: Fifth Grade Teachers at Calhoun Academy
Anderson, SC

What you know about nouns!?!? What you know about nouns!?!? What you know about nouns!?!? We know all about nouns!!
A person, a place, or animal or thing. Like a boy or a school or a dog or a ring.
What you know about nouns!?!? What you know about nouns!?!? What you know about nouns!?!? We know all about nouns!!
--Repeat—
When we talkin' nouns, you know we mean the stars of sentences, so let us tell you what they are. (PEOPLE) like the students, yo. (PLACE) like the schools, yo. (ANIMAL) like the fishes, yo. (THING) like the dishes, yo.

Now if it's singular, it stands for one of ya,
And if it's plural, it stands for more than one of ya.
You change by adding s, to all those normal nouns.
For example, pencils, pens and maybe crowns.
Now if it ends in X, ch, sh, double s. You add an es to the end, nonetheless.
You carry boxes yo, and ride the buses, yo, Or wear the dresses yo, and eat the lunches, yo.
A person, a place, or animal or thing. Like a boy or a school or a dog or a ring.
What you know about nouns!?!?
What you know about nouns!?!?
What you know about nouns!?!?
We know all about nouns!!

When we talking nouns with a consonant before the “y”, come on drop the “y” and add “ies”
city with an -ies
family with an -ies
cherry with an -ies
party with an -ies
Now if the ending is f or fe change the f to v and add es
A cat with 9 lives yo, the leaves on the trees yo, the calves on the farm yo, two halves of a pizza yo,

Not every noun follows the pattern
irregular nouns-change a few letters
You walk on ya feet yo,
you feed the geese yo
You trick the mice yo,
you teach the children yo

Some don’t change, no matter how many
The word sounds the same, and the spelling doesn’t change
Fishing for 1 trout or fishing for two trout
Hunting for 1 deer or hunting for 10 deer
The two types of nouns are common and proper
Common is just plain but proper gets specific
Keep the lowercase-- on the common nouns
Proper nouns are queens so give them special crowns
Your school is Calhoun yo, Your state is S.C yo, Your country is the US yo, Your planet is the Earth yo

I Know What Possessive Means

“I Know What Possessive Means”
Sing to “Obsessed” by Mariah Carey
By: Kim Bearden- Ron Clark Academy

So oh oh oh ohSo oh oh oh ohSo oh oh oh ohSo oh oh oh ohSo oh oh oh ohSo oh oh oh ohSo oh oh oh ohSo oh oh oh ohWhen you’ve got wordsDifferent nouns
And you need to know whose they are
Apostrophes go
With an s
We’ll learn the rules for
Different sets
Singular nouns
Apostrophe s
It’s always the same, except for with names
With those you choose what you want to do
You got it now? You got it now? OhI know what possessive means (boy, I want to know)It’s so easy can’t you see (when everybody knows)
It’s not too hard to learn just threeRules to make your friends impressed
Use ‘em right each time—you’ll have success
Show ownership or relationship
Keep it straight in your mind
It’s confusing you what you’ve got to do
But it’s easy you will find
Plural nouns that end in s
Simply add apostrophe after the S

Oh oh oh…

I know what possessive means
Oh, oh, oh….

Plural nouns
That don’t end in s
Add the apostrophe
Before the S

That’s all there is
No complications
Only three rules
No hesitation
Tell the world how they should use themMake them stop
Always abusin’ ‘em
Tell mom and pop
Tell corporationsHave a press conferenceHave a conversationI know what possessive means (boy, I want to know)It’s so easy can’t you see (when everybody knows)
It’s not too hard to learn just threeRules to make your friends impressed
